Autonomous forklifts are attracting attention from warehouses that want repeatable pallet movement and more consistent material flow. Automation should begin with a specific task and measurable operating goal, not simply with a request for the newest technology.
Suitable tasks may include line feeding, pallet transfer, storage moves, or transport between defined work areas. The operating scene must account for pedestrians, manual trucks, doors, staging locations, floor changes, and exceptions that require human intervention.
Confirm pallet type, load weight, route length, floor condition, navigation method, rack interface, traffic rules, safety zones, software integration, charging, and manual override. A hybrid fleet may be more practical than replacing every conventional truck at once.
Before quotation, map the process, frequency, handoff points, exception cases, WMS or ERP interface, network availability, operator roles, and expected return on investment. Identify who will maintain the system and how the site will operate during a fault.
